[SFTB] ️✈️ Getting Over The Fear of Flying

Did you go to the Prosper Show? As usual, the talks & presentations had some, but not a ton of value. The real value (as always) is the connections and face-to-face meetings. There’s just something different that happens with trust when you actually see that the other person is a real human. It’s weird.

That being said, here’s three impactful tips I took away from Jon Derkits’ talk on building better cashflow in your business:

Have you ever wanted to change your item’s barcode preference from FNSKU to UPC and you’re not 100% sure how, read on:

First, create a new shipment using the ASIN that has the FNSKU barcode preference. Then, choose “Save by using manufacturer barcode.”

Next, choose “use manufacturer barcode” and enter in a new SKU. Amazon will automatically create a new offer for your product using the manufacturer barcode. Voilà! now you can use the new SKU and go stickerless (manufacturer barcode).

I recently read this incredibly fascinating article of the missing Malaysian MH370 Airplane in 2014 (note: the article is paywalled, but you can use archive.is to read it).

Most of you probably remember this plane dissappearing. It was all over the news for months. I never really knew what happened, and it is a very sad but unbelievable story. The article revealed a stark truth: the passengers, likely, stood no chance of averting their fate. And it got me thinking about the sense of helplessness that comes with flying.

Every day we take risks. When we get in a car, when we walk across the street, or get in an airplane. When you take a flight you’re completely in the hands of a stranger (the pilot). Not much you can do if they become incapacitated, aren’t able to fly the plane, or worse.

Yet, this vulnerability leads to acceptance. In flight, control is surrendered, trust totally placed in someone else. For me,  my own fear of flying decreased with each journey (really!).

Frequency bred familiarity, and most importantly, an acceptance of my lack of control.

… every so often, for a few hours, my fate is out of my hands. And that’s ok.

“Efoils” are becoming a more popular water sport around the coastline of Costa Rica.  There are several vendors setting up on the shores offering rentals and lessons.  If you have never seen these, it is basically a surfboard with an electronic motor attached so you fly over the water!

From what I have seen the rental prices are about $100 an hour and I was pretty excited to give it a try.  That was until I found out about a friend of mine who took a lesson that didn’t go so well.  When he was out, he fell off, and his hand got too close to the propeller and his pinky became fish food. 😭🐟☝️

He is a doctor, but apparently, the pinky isn’t so important in surgery.  If you are looking to try it out, make sure there is a screen guard on the propeller.

A few of you might remember our friend Robin Brown who had a horrible VAT issue where Amazon was holding over $500K in disbursements.

Thankfully, last week Robin received his money from Amazon!

Robin was basically on the edge of losing everything – so we’re all feeling really thankful.

Robin hired multiple experts, reached out to multiple Amazon seller communities, and had at least 15 emails with Amazon employees, nothing worked.

What did work?

He called his local politican. Apparently this woman had some sway with Amazon and managed to get him his money back. I think she’s getting Robin’s vote in the next election!

Congratulations, Robin! I know I’m going to remember this the next time something really bad happens and I can’t seem to get through to anyone.
