The CRA is watching… Set up your GST & Tax info Correctly on Amazon
|
If you’re new here, you might know my wife Marsha and I are CPAs. We have an accounting business and have been helping Amazon sellers for years.
The #1 tax issue we see with Amazon Sellers we’ve worked with is not setting up their GST/HST correctly on Amazon. There are so many pitfalls for sellers when it comes to sales taxes… and we often see sellers unknowingly double paying GST!
Are you sure your sales taxes are set up correctly on Amazon? If not, you may be paying $1000s of extra dollars per year. 😢💸
We guarantee the course will pay for itself immediately.

Amazon Year in Review 2023
|
Every year we love reading Juozas Kaziukenas’ Year in Review on Marketplace Pulse. There’s always a ton of extremely interesting stuff and things we forgot. If you don’t have time to read the entire thing, here’s the 3 big takeaways:
|
The 1% Zone 👊Actionable Amazon Tips
Have you read James Clear’s Atomic Habits? Little things add up.
Here’s something you can to TODAY to improve your business:
Small & Light (Low-Price FBA Fees) <$10 Fee Reduction
Sometimes it’s the most basic stuff you miss.
I was a big user of the Small and Light program over the last few years. It was a big boost to my business. In a nutshell, the S&L program allowed sellers to sell small items and receive discounts on fulfilment fees.
Unfortunately, the program was axed on August 29, 2023. It was replaced with the Low-Price FBA Fees Program. Basically: Any product under $10 receives a $0.77 discount on FBA fees. Also, these types of products are not subject to Peak FBA fees (Oct->Dec).
Have a look at these two FBA Fee Estimates. On the left, at $9.99 our profit is $6.03. On the right at $10.99 (during peak fee season – it’s Q4) our profit is $5.91. This means that we’re actually making more profit by selling our product for less with no increase in sales.
|
Taking this one step further…
During peak season, pricing this product at $9.99 OR $11.13 results in the exact same profit per unit. Now, I don’t know your product, but I’m going to assume that pricing at $9.99 instead of $11.13 results in more sales.
During non-peak season, pricing this product at $9.99 OR $10.89 results again in the exact same profit per unit.
That means if you want to be safe all year round, the pricing DEAD ZONE (i.e. NEVER PRICE IN THIS ZONE) is $10.00 to $10.88.
(All of this is assuming a 15% Referral fee in most standard categories).

The Car Watchman
In our beach towns in Costa Rica, it’s quite common for men, often wearing vests, to offer to watch your car in public areas. They likely don’t own the land you’re parking on, and I don’t inquire about the land title or deed🤣, but it’s typically the same men each day. They usually ask for a few dollars, and we oblige. Marsha keeps a memo on her phone with their names and descriptions to remember them.
Remembering their name immediately changes the dynamic! If they request too much – they are more willing to negotiate. For instance, if they ask for $6, I tell them I’m a local, and offer $3 instead. Since we’re at the beach a lot, they usually recognize us and sometimes reserve better spots. While having a car guard at the beach is wise, I’d still advise against leaving valuables inside. These men have watched over our vehicle, shaded it, and even assisted with a flat tire. They also make sure noone touches our Side-by-Side. I like to think of it as good Karma. 🫶
