Here Are My 14 Product Research Deal-Breakers

If any of these happen, it's basically FULL STOP for me and onto the next niche.
  1. The only suppliers are American (shots fired) Costs are almost always too high to be competitive. Margins are gone before I even get started.
  2. If used incorrectly, the person could die Too much liability. Too much stress. Not interested.
  3. My ROI per sale will be under 100% If I'm not at least doubling my money per unit, it's not worth launching.
  4. There's less than 5 unique ways to describe the product Not enough keyword angles means not enough visibility. Scaling becomes a grind.
  5. There's less than 30 keywords over 500 search volume Low demand niches are a trap. Ranking becomes expensive and unrewarding.
  6. The product is just a fad (fidget spinners) Trendy = risky. I want long-term demand, not a six-month gold rush.
  7. The average niche selling price is under $6 No margin, high fees, and you'll have to move mountains just to break even.
  8. I won't have enough money to place a re-order If I can't restock on time, I go out of stock. That means lost rank, lost momentum, and lost money.
  9. I can't figure out a way to differentiate If I can't make the product stand out, I have no reason to sell it.
  10. The Google Trends graph has been declining for a long time Downward trends usually don’t reverse. I don't want to build something in a dying category.
  11. I can't sell it on Amazon If there are restrictions, hazmat issues, or I need 18 documents to get ungated, I'm out.
  12. Niche competitors have fake reviews or use black-hat tactics Not going to war with cheaters. If the space is dirty, I walk away.
  13. It's electronic Too many moving parts, too many returns, and customer expectations are sky high.
  14. The category has an abnormally high refund rate If people constantly return this kind of product, that tells me everything I need to know.
