How to Increase Your Amazon PPC Threshold Before They Bill You: From 00 per Invoice to 0K per Invoice

In 30 seconds: HOW TO INCREASE YOUR AMAZON PPC THRESHOLD BEFORE THEY BILL YOU: FROM $500 PER INVOICE TO $10K PER INVOICE

Amazon sellers can increase their PPC billing threshold (also called the "payment ladder") from the default $500 to $5,000 or $10,000 per invoice by contacting Amazon Advertising support through the Campaign Manager. According to Amazon's billing system, the threshold determines how often Amazon generates an advertising invoice and charges your payment method. A higher threshold means fewer invoices, better cash flow, and significantly simpler bookkeeping. A seller spending $5,000 per month on PPC at a $500 threshold receives 10 invoices monthly instead of one.

According to Amazon's advertising billing system, Amazon uses a "payment ladder" for PPC campaigns. When you first start running ads, your billing threshold is set to approximately $500. Every time your cumulative ad spend hits that amount, Amazon generates an invoice and charges your payment method.

As your account builds history and trust, Amazon may automatically increase your threshold over time. However, this automatic process is slow, and most sellers do not realize they can request a higher limit immediately.

Why You Should Increase Your Threshold

Fewer Invoices to Track

If you spend $5,000 per month on PPC and your threshold is $500, that is 10 separate invoices every month. Over a year, that is 120 invoices just for advertising. Increasing to $5,000 means one invoice per month, much easier to reconcile in your bookkeeping.

  • $2,000/month spend: 4 invoices at $500, 1 invoice at $5,000, 1 invoice at $10,000
  • $5,000/month spend: 10 invoices at $500, 1 invoice at $5,000, 1 invoice at $10,000
  • $10,000/month spend: 20 invoices at $500, 2 invoices at $5,000, 1 invoice at $10,000
  • $20,000/month spend: 40 invoices at $500, 4 invoices at $5,000, 2 invoices at $10,000

Better Cash Flow

A higher threshold means Amazon takes longer to bill you. Instead of being charged every few days, you might go two to three weeks before hitting your limit. That extra float can make a meaningful difference, especially during peak seasons like Q4 when ad spend ramps up.

Simpler CRA Compliance

According to tax professionals, CRA has been increasing advertising audits on Amazon sellers. Having clean, organized advertising invoices is critical. Fewer invoices with larger amounts are much easier to match against your bank statements and present during an audit than dozens of small ones.

Easier Bookkeeping

Each invoice needs to be recorded in your accounting software with the net amount, GST/HST (for Amazon.ca), and matched to a bank charge. Reducing the number of invoices saves real time, either yours or your bookkeeper's.

How to Increase Your Amazon PPC Billing Threshold

Step 1: Open Amazon PPC Campaign Manager

Log into Seller Central and go to your Campaign Manager (under the Advertising tab). In the top right corner, click the question mark icon (?) and then select "Support Center".

Step 2: Navigate to Billing Support

In the Support Center:

  • Select "Billing and Payments"
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Contact Us"
  • From the dropdown, choose "Payments and Invoicing"
  • Then select "Payment frequency and credit ladder"
  • Choose "Live Chat" as your contact method

Step 3: Request the Increase

When connected with a support agent, send this message: "Hello, please increase my payment ladder to $5,000."

Or for a higher threshold: "Hello, please increase my payment ladder to $10,000."

Keep it simple and direct. The agent will review your account history and either approve immediately or escalate.

What if They Say No?

  • Ask for escalation. Request that your case be reviewed by a supervisor or the billing team.
  • Try again later. Some agents are more flexible than others, and account history matters. If your account is newer, wait a month and try again.
  • Build spend history. Amazon is more likely to approve increases for accounts with consistent spending and on-time payment history.

What Threshold Should You Request?

Choose based on your monthly ad spend:

  • Under $2,000 monthly PPC spend: Recommended threshold $2,000. Result: roughly 1 invoice/month.
  • $2,000 to $5,000 monthly PPC spend: Recommended threshold $5,000. Result: roughly 1 invoice/month.
  • $5,000 to $10,000 monthly PPC spend: Recommended threshold $10,000. Result: roughly 1 invoice/month.
  • Over $10,000 monthly PPC spend: Recommended threshold $10,000+ (ask for maximum). Result: 1 to 2 invoices/month.

The goal is approximately one invoice per month. This makes bookkeeping clean and year-end filing much simpler.
